THINKING….curse you text messaging

Only 7 percent of communication is verbal (words) 38 percent vocal (volume, pitch, rhythm, etc) and 55 percent body movements (mostly facial expressions) (According to A. Barbour, author of Louder Than Words: Nonverbal Communication), However, in today’s Hi tech world, most people subscribe to a 90% text/IM/Facebook/twitter form of communication and are slowly loosing their normal communication skills.

I am not exempt from this habit, (i’m always online) but it wasn’t always this way, I remember when the house phone was my only means of communication besides face to face conversations. Our generation is so addicted to these quick and detached forms of communication that verbal communication begins to lack. I’ve met people over the Internet (lol that sounds so creepy) we have great insightful conversations and humor filled sessions, however upon actually meeting the person the conversations are often awkward, as if we were strangers. All these Internet based communication devices have numbed our cognitive processing of actual interaction, we are adapting (as all animals) to this new frontier while ignoring simple face to face communication. so do yourself a favor, see that little white x with a red background on the top right corner of your screen? click it and go out and have a conversation with someone you would like to get to know better. I will do the same
