RIP. Trojan man

Tomorrow  is the memorial service for a beloved friend and inspiration in my life, I met Troy in Algebra class, before the cancer, We went to the same lunch, watching our friends duel it out back when the library at HP let you bring food in. Troy was quiet most of the time but when he spoke it was pure genius and comedy. He was a good friend and it brings tears to my eyes to have to write this right now. After the cancer he remained strong and became and inspiration to all around him, he kept us smiling and we will never forget the great Troy Terawaki, I love you bro,  no more pain, till we meet again.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

ALMOST THERE FOLKS!!! season uno, summer time, first drop, Connoisseurs, Almost there! can you feel it?? lol I CAN!

Early May is the projected release date, I figured I’d use this chance to tell you more about the mindset and thought process behind this brand.

As you know may or may not know, I (Wale A.) run the brand from school, and if you’re my friend of facebook you’ve probably read one of my poems, seen me break dance, sing or seen some of my pictures. I am a self acclaimed advocate for self expression and I think I am a good example of that.

The seed was planted in 2005, I said I was going to make a brand that expresses and celebrates the details in life, if it’s worth doing do it right! so I waited till acceptable resources were available to me before launching the project. the idea I had was to make the clothing a little more organic again, more personal, ignoring public opinion or critiques. I wanted something to relate to me.

I was always the complete opposite of the odd ball in high school, as I grew more into my own, I didn’t let society classify me. I fit in with the Anime crowd, the jocks, the choir folks, the sneaker heads, e.t.c. and I feel this brand brings all these diverse sects together. A Connoisseur is anyone with  an acquired taste or expertise in something. people have different interests and different hobbies, but one thing we all have in common will be life, and collectively (since no one person has all the experiences and all the answers) we become a CONNOISSEUR OF LIFE, the brand celebrates that life and appreciates the details in it. I can’t tell you entirely what to expect from this brand because I myself am not aware of any limits, I however can tell you this, expect sincere, genuine and stunning art, expect pieces that not only stimulate your eyes but your brain as well, expect nothing but the best I can offer every time, expect growth and improving quality.

The Phenomenon that is Fmylife.com is really intriguing, we all like a good laugh, and apparently at other peoples expense. although i think most of the entries are fabricated, it’s still sad that we enjoy it so much (notice i said we, i’m on that site every other day) Their misery I guess gives a subliminal tug reminding us that our lives aren’t so bad after all, at least you didn’t get on a bus and have an old lady die on your shoulder. The moral of this here post is, Smile, it’s not so bad.

Self Education

No one person has just ONE interest, people are a variety of interest and that’s what makes them unique, the problem with the structure of our society is that it forces specific specialization. Doctors are Doctors, and Engineers are Engineers, The problem with that is Man is not a specialized being, Man CREATES, explores, trials and errors. I myself use a plethora of mediums to express this creative urge. I learn my crafts some come easy, others require more focus, the point is I try as much as possible to do what I want, I don’t have any kids or a spouse depending on me financially or otherwise, therefore I invest my time and other resources into my interests. If you are in the same category, please pursue your interest, explore them, I guarantee your life will feel more filled with every creative episode.

A lot of college kids are forced to abandon other interests to focus on their majors, this is where the problems occur, no time to schedule that photography class because you have to take Organic Chemistry this semester. Well THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET! Self educate people, or even better, JUST DO IT!  there are millions of tutorials on just about anything you can think of, just google it. and if you don’t feel like learning from the Internet, just go out and create, trial and error folks! trial and error!

Do what makes you happy, Do what brings you joy, forget the “haters”

W.I.A.T

So as all starving college kids know, you have to improvise on feeding yourself sometimes and this morning i did just that. (F.Y.I, W.I.A.T means What I ate today)

Ever since I discovered Chicken and Waffles, I’ve been pairing all kinds of poultry dishes with pastries.

This morning I decided to pair my beloved toaster struddles (boston creme and blueberry) with a drumstick of my friend Charles Coulter’s Skook famous chicken.

IT WAS HEAVENLY!!!!

The summer drop is around the corner, no exact drop date yet, but look at FIRST WEEK IN MAY!! I am considering going against traditional/conventional structures of releasing clothing, I am considering just giving yall a product as soon as I envision it, regardless of the season. I hate the business side of any business, but money is always a priority in this world (how I wish it wasn’t so.)
